The H10-38R-CMT is a shockable running wheel that can mount directly to the Rat Test Cage.  This design allows behavioral and activity or exercise experiments to be conducted in the same testing environment without sacrificing living space like running wheels that are mounted inside the cage.  The entrance to the wheel (7.3 diameter) will accommodate tethered subjects.  An optional Manual Guillotine Door is available to restrict access to and from the running wheel.

Unlike running wheels that mount on an angle to fit inside a cage, this running wheel is free turning without any addition force required to run in the wheel.  However, a motor is connected to the hub of the running wheel that serves both as the drive axle to the running wheel and a break so that an adjustable friction can be applied, changing the amount of energy that must be exerted to run in the wheel for applications where additional force is required..

Two quick connect tabs are accessible on the rear of the running wheel for providing shock capabilities.  Shock can be provided by any of the H13-XX series shockers along with the appropriate shock cable.

A reed switch is used to provide a switch output that can be taken into the Habitest system for monitoring revolutions.  An additional switch input can be added for easy integration into the ACTIMETRICS Clocklab system for running circadian biology experiments separately or in conjunction with other behavioral experiments.

A second version of this running wheel is available with an opening that will allow the runway to be inserted into the Rat Test Cage or any Rat Hub.
